TO LISTEN TO THE BODY IS TO HEAL THE BODY.

When we listen to the needs of our body and mind and act accordingly, that is how we heal.

I first met the enchanting Marina Zahran last April at a Mother Blessing Ceremony that she was hosting for a soon-to-be postpartum client of mine. I was drawn to her - like a moth to a flame - instantly. She was gorgeous, charismatic, the one bringing in all of the amazing food, and there was something that was just different about her right from the start. I went on to have coffee dates with her and I took a deep dive into some of her Ayurvedic basics classes in the spring, I even celebrated my last birthday with her and some friends in August. It was a fast and furious friendship that I am so grateful came along!

She’s a gem. Plain and simple.

Her areas of interest are many coupled with an insatiable hunger for more knowledge, more love, and more power that she brings to each of her interactions. I’m so excited that I get to feature her and her business, Stardust Standard this month. There are SO many things she has to share with us so I won’t make you wait any longer!

To kick off the weekly posts from her this month, today we’ll get a taste of what alternative medicine means from her perspective.

Happy reading, my friends!

Traditional medicine has been used for thousands and thousands of years (with success), but in no way operates in direct opposition to western medicine. There is a place for both Western (Allopathic Medicine) as well as Traditional (Alternative) Medicine Modalities.

Modern medicine is absolutely necessary and incredible. However, let us remember that medicinal amalgamation exists exclusively because of plants. Our first establishment of medicine was derived from some of the very pants that grow rougely in your backyard or nearby metro park.

A single herb has thousands of individual constituents that make up its chemical composition. Herbs have been extracted thousands of times over by pharmaceutical companies and re-manufactured to provide relief to billions of individuals worldwide. Ex: Salicylic Acid extracted from Willow Bark to create Aspirin.

Alternative medicine (specifically Ayurveda) approaches disease from a bottom-up model rather than top-down.

Each individual and each disease is looked at carefully to best understand the nature of the individual and the ailment presented.

Ayurvedic Medicine goes beyond surface level symptoms to address disease and uses clinical approaches to unfurl disease from the root cause - offering systemic relief to the mind, body, and spirit.
