ERIKA'S STORY - PART 2
IF YOU DIDN’T READ THE FIRST PART OF THIS STORY, YOU’RE GONNA BE LOST. TAKE A MINUTE TO GO LOOK IT UP. IT’S DEFINITELY WORTH YOUR TIME!
The spinal and its meds were such an experience. They used ice to determine if I was getting numb in all the right places and sure enough I was. The team was getting me set up. Arms out like a T, the curtain up, music playing in the background. Catheter placed.
Thankfully I had my doula with me in the room, she was a true comfort and a safe place.
When the doctors were cutting me and getting the baby out, it felt like someone had placed my belly on a washing machine and turned it on the fast level. I didn’t feel pain but I felt the pressure.
What seemed like no time at all, baby was out and the doctors set the timer for a minute for delayed cord clamping before being rushed to the neonatal team.
My doula was able to get pictures of the baby hanging out and it is something else.
Turns out the time he did spend inside me did help him though. He was a big 2 lbs 10 ounces for 24 weeks and 6 days which is quite sizeable.
Now he did have his challenges in the coming weeks, I do not know the extent of everything because that is not part of my journey or story but today at almost 2 years old, that little gaffer is doing exceptionally well.
The recovery was another story….
